Cross country skiing
The Gsiesertal/Val Casies Valley makes athletes’ hearts beat faster even in winter. The cross-country trails in the Gsiesertal Valley, renowned for their snow reliability, are perfectly groomed every day and, with their 42 kilometers of tracks, ideally suited for all skill levels. Whether skating or classic style, the trail runs through the entire valley and is now well known for the annual race GranFondo della Val Casies. In addition, the Gsieseratal Valley is part of Europe’s largest cross-country skiing network, the Dolomiti NordicSki, with over 700 km of trails.
Skiing
In the immediate vicinity of our Mountain Residence Montana is the Skilift of Santa Maddalena, a small but very sunny ski area with ski school and ski rental, ideal for skiing for children, beginners and families.
Moreover, the Casies Valley is the ideal starting point to the ski paradise "Dolomiti Superski", the biggest ski carousel of the world, to the Plan de Corones, to Corvara (Sellaronda), and to the ski area Tre Cime Dolomites.
Snowshoeing
If you don't want to miss out on hiking in winter either, the Casies Valley is just the right place for you. Here, far away from the après-ski hustle and bustle, you can experience the winter from its most beautiful and natural side.
Steel blue skies, warming sunrays and lots of powder snow accompany you on the best prepared hiking trails as well as on the snow-covered slopes. As in summer, you can also enjoy a variety of serviced mountain huts in winter.

The Casies Valley is known for its varied mountain tours, which can be hiked not only in summer. In winter the valley and the surrounding Dolomites offer a wide range of ski tours.
Alpine huts in winter
The Casies Valley is famous for its alpine huts. Many of the alpine huts are open in summer as well as in winter and offer a wonderful end to many a strenuous hike or ski tour. Use a toboggan after a stop at one of the many alpine huts to return to the valley.
