Ferrata Croda Rossa (2936m)

General information: A fairly long ascent, very busy in midsummer, with a ladder section at the beginning of the route. Much walking terrain, to a small extent also in exposed surroundings. Sure-footedness and a good portion of alpine experience are required for this tour. On the northern flank of the ascent you will encounter hard old snow in early summer. The high altitude ensures winter conditions even in summer after storms and in autumn after changes in the weather. Due to the length of the tour, the weather should always be kept in mind and an early change of weather should be considered.

Ascent: From the car park with the cable car to the Rotwandwiese. From the mountain station (1914 m) you hike on hiking trail no. 100 over the Rotwandwiese to the Rotwandköpfen. Follow the "Rotwand-Klettersteig" markings to the start at 2300 m. The start is an iron ladder about 40 m long.

Characteristics: The ascent marked with red triangles follows mostly paths and climbing facilities from the First World War. All steep sections of the via ferrata are well secured with steel ropes or defused by ladders. Easy via ferrata with only a few exposed passages and a long ladder at the entrance. The rest of the ascent is, where necessary, well secured.

Descent: From the summit you descend to the scree basin below the Wurzbach summit (just before the ladder). There you can descend again via the Rotwandköpfe to the starting point.

Starting point: Car park cable car Croda Rossa at Sesto
