What are the possibilities for cross-country skiers during a holiday in the Gsiesertal?

No matter what you expect from a cross-country slope, you will find it in the Gsiesertal and its surroundings.
The Gsiesertal, a side valley of the Pustertal and a neighbouring valley of the Antholzertal, is a true cross-country skiing paradise. It offers routes of all levels of difficulty as well as the internationally popular Gsiesertallauf as part of the Euroloppet series.
The Gsiesertal has made an international name for itself in recent years due to its guaranteed snow and perfectly groomed cross-country trails. Cross-country skiing fun is guaranteed from the beginning of December to mid-March.
The cross-country ski trails run through snow-covered fields and forests and always with a view of the Dolomites. The trail is 42km long and stretches from St. Magdalena at 1450m above sea level to Welsberg (1200m above sea level). Especially the cross-country trail from St. Martin to St.Magdalena is a highlight for demanding cross-country skiers due to its degree of difficulty.
In Welsberg you have access to the Pustertaler Skimarathon trails in the direction of Villabassa, Braies, Dobbiaco, San Candido and Sesto. Those who manage it conditionally also have the possibility to run without interruption from St. Magdalena to Cortina (a distance of 60 km one way).
The cross-country skiing route from Dobbiaco to Cortina is a scenic highlight and is also regularly run as part of the Tour de Ski. The route runs on an old railway line through the Höhlensteintal in the middle of the world natural heritage of the Dolomites and on the way from Dobbiaco to Cortina one sees the Dobbiaco Lake, the Dürrensee and also the Three Peaks.
If you just want to ski the Tobalch Cortina route, you can reach Dobbiaco by car in 20 minutes. In Dobbiaco you can also find different World Cup trails.
As our guest you can use all public transport in South Tyrol free of charge (just in case you run out of energy).

The cross-country skiing trails of the Antholz/ Anterselva Valley are easily accessible by car.
The Antholzertal/ Anterselva is a side valley of the South Tyrolean Pustertal and, like the Gsiesertal, a cross-country skiing Mecca in an untouched winter landscape.
The highlight of the Antholzertal is the cross-country ski run on Lake Antholz and the cross-country ski run to the Staller Sattel with a breathtaking mountain panorama.
You have the possibility to run on the Biathlon World Cup tracks of Anterselva, except the weeks of world cup.

High-altitude cross-country ski run on Prato Piazza
A very special insider tip is the high-altitude cross-country trail on Prato Piazza. Prato Piazza is a high plateau near Lago di Braies. The cross-country ski run is located at 2000m above sea level and offers an amazing panoramic view of the Dolomites similar to the Alpe di Siusi.

With a holiday in the Gsiesertal you can be sure of great snow and of several hundred kilometres of cross-country trails in unspoilt countryside.

1st of December to 1st of April
